Name: Wuianze
Age: 31
Appearance: Pale skin and fine features grace Wuianze, making her look like a delicate Lady Holder were it not for her goldrider knots. Her soft hair is a deep black that is usually kept up in a ponytail (when she’s feeling relaxed) or a bun, usually elaborate with many loops of her hair or braids. Wuanze’s mouth is small and is painted to look like she’s giving a tiny smile even when she isn’t, just to give everyone the illusion that she’s complicit in the goings-on around her, such a good little woman, isn’t she? Should one be her chambermaid or just that close to her, however, they’d see her face grow ugly with shrewd calculations and scheming to end those she hates and roust those against her.
Personality: Not much liked at Igen, Wuianze is truly a cold, calculating, and conniving woman who knows her rank and that it is tenuous at best. Not as terrible as, say, Weyrleader, but still questionable. Until she becomes Weyrwoman, anyone could out her and that isn’t alright with Wuianze. She will happily reorganize Threadfighting positions so that the people she’s displeased with go up to face Thread first, at least once Thread starts. Adept with a sword, she’s also incredibly fond of challenging thoughtless riders to duels where her sword will easily overpower their daggers. She’s not warm to many people, especially her partners, and will be more likely to use the Weyrleader to shape the Weyr to her liking than love him.
History: Born on 5.15 in a small hold near Southern Telgar Hold, Wuianze was her aging father’s only daughter out of a dozen sons. While most girls might be overlooked as just another breeder, Wuianze instead was doted on constantly by her father to the exclusion of her brothers. She was taught math and to read and write, the history of Pern, politics as much as her father could, and probably most importantly- how to survive in a world of men. Her mother died when she was very young, making her the only woman in her family. No aunties, no cousins or grannies, nothing but uncles, grandpas, brothers, and male cousins. And her father, who treated Wuianze like a queen.
Since it was an Interval, clutches didn’t happen that often so no one expected a dragon to come on Search to their little hold, but a beautiful blue absolutely did. Wuianze’s dozen brothers and numerous cousins lined up for inspection, sure that at least one of them would be Searched. But the dragon refuses them all even while insisting that someone there is calling to her. He sees Wuianze peeking out of a window and declares her as his chosen. There wasn’t a gold egg yet, but Wuianze’s father sees the possibilities of sending his special daughter to the Weyr, so he allows it.
Wuianze was blown away by how intense the Weyr was- the hustle and bustle, the constant dragons, the fact that she was now no one. True, female candidates were special since they were meant for golds, but there weren’t exactly many golds. Igen already had two golds so everyone figured they were fine since the Pass was still roughly fifteen Turns away. Imagine the surprise when the junior gold did lay a shining gold egg. All the girls in the barracks immediately started gossiping with the exception of Wuianze. She didn’t gossip, especially with the drabble. She knew that she would get the gold and it turned out that she was right. At the Hatching, she could feel a burning rage from within the egg even before two massive red-gold wings burst through the shell followed by the rest of the egg exploding to reveal a great blazing gold that didn’t hesitate to maul the girls one by one. She reached for Wuianze to do the same but the girl batted the gold’s paw away while glaring at her. Impression happened in that moment and it only got rougher from there.
Trying to contain Zhuqiaoth was nearly impossible- her temper was so short that she may well have not had any patience at all. The pair fought their teachers and fighting the junior and senior weyrwomen their whole weyrlinghood. Post graduation saw Wuianze and Zhuqiaoth starting their plotting, possibly out of revenge for basically being shoved into the back of the Weyr to count barrels of grain and other bureaucratic work. This only fueled their rage and desire to overpower the others and take control of the Weyr itself. These thoughts would fester in the pair as they grew.
When she was twenty five, Wuianze and Zhuqiaoth were out flying when they heard a great fuss below them. They went to check it out and found wild whers fighting each other to the death. Zhuqiaoth bellowed at them and the wild beasts fled. A golden hide glittered in the mess and that got both rider and dragon’s attention and they landed to investigate. A corpse of a gold wher lay over a nest of mostly destroyed eggs. One of the survivors was a brilliant gold and Wuianze took it without question. She swiftly returned to the Weyr and, taking sand from the Hatching Sands, put the gold wher egg in a pot to hatch. There was suspicion from the other goldriders that they’d done something but no one knew what until Wuianze was walking about with what looked like a squashed gold dragon.
They could only take five more years of Wuianze’s plotting and rebellious nonsense and Zhuqiaoth’s attitude and that wher before Wuianze was transferred to the failing Shadow Weyr. While on their way, the pair flew low to try to find another wher egg and succeeded. Zhuqiaoth held back the queen with her influence while Wuianze found a glittering egg that wasn’t quite gold and was one of the largest eggs in the clutch. She arrived at Shadow Weyr with this egg and her own wher.
Position in the Weyr: Weyrwoman
Pets: One
Pet Name: Wuianzsk
Pet Type: Gold Wher
Appearance: A bright sunny gold all over, the only deviants in Wuianzsk’s hide are darker gold stripes down her back, darker gold paws, and a very, VERY dark patch on her face. She’s large, 1300 pounds and 5.5 feet at her shoulder, bigger than almost any other gold and very proud of it. Wuianzsk knows who she is and will not let anyone bicker with her over it.
Personality: Stubborn to a fault, Wuianzsk listens to no one but her handler and Zhuqiaoth thanks to the gold dragon’s influence. She tends her clutches with love as a gold is supposed to, but the moment that they hatch, they need to leave. She’s not yet had a chance to lay a gold yet, so there’s no precedent how she reacts with them yet. She’s well trained but will not hesitate to swipe at someone who is annoying her.
Dragon Name: Zhuqiaoth
Color: Gold
Age: 15
Appearance: A great gold who seems to burn with bright flames along her wings, tail, and down the back of her neck. This effect is achieved by bright reddish-white gold hide. Her muzzle is a darker and gleaming gold that leads to a pale yellow-gold over the rest of her body, she harkens back to the ancient phoenix of legend. Her wings are wide and tail is long, both a mix of red-gold that gleam brightly in dim light and positively blaze in the sun. Her facial build is designed to have her look constantly stern and angry… mostly because she is.
Personality: Some golds like listening to the problems of others, especially those below them. Some golds like taking care of hatchlings who aren’t theirs. Zhuqiaoth is NOT one of those queens. She detests others complaining to her and will sooner send someone scurrying off with a whimper than be empathetic and merciful. To other queens, she is diplomatic and polite for the most part, and her own daughters have been raised firmly but with grace. Candidates had best behave on her Sands or in her presence or she will not hesitate to physically remove them from her presence. Oddly enough, she has a special soft spot for blue dragons even if they can’t fly her. They will always find themselves welcomed warmly at her side unless they irritate her.
Abilities/Weaknesses: Zhuqiaoth has no patience for anyone but her rider, and even that is strenuous. The one exception is her rider’s gold which she sees as one of her hatchlings that will never grow up all the way, and blue dragons sometimes.
